Leadership Team

(LTs)

The Leadership Team (LTs) provides support for all other groups at MusiCamp, anticipates shortcomings and provides solutions, works collaboratively with other LTs and staff members to provide solutions, and maintains a calm status quo when energy levels fluctuate.

Among other duties, the primary role of the LT is to train, mentor, and lead our MC Team to create the optimal camp experience.

    • Have worked at MusiCamp for a minimum of 3 years, 2 of which should be as an MC.

    • Have experience in teaching / mentoring / working with college-aged and young professionals

    • Bachelors Degree in Music Education

    • Experienced Licensed Music Educator with experience running a program, taking groups on tour, and dealing with situations where communication with parents and other stakeholders is necessary

    • Experience in conflict management resolution/mediation

  • As an LT, your expectations would include: 

    • Before Camp:

      • Meet and Prepare 

        • MC training and all related materials

        • Afternoon/evening activities and all needed items

      • Be in regular communication with Camp directors

      • Connect and communicate with MCs

        • Possibly vetting and interviewing MC candidates

        • Answer questions that may arise

    • Arrival at Camp

      • Arrive no later than Friday morning before camp

      • Collaborate with the LT members for planning & executing MC training

      • Assist camp directors and Operations team in preparing camp for MCs and campers to arrive

        • Prepare First aid kits

    • During the Week

      • Lead, coach the MC Team and support Operations Team

        • May Include: taking photos / videos, set up / tear down of activities, helping MCs lead sectionals, and being present, visible, and available to help where needed. 

      • Additional Camper needs: Driving campers to and from activities, medical trips, sick campers

      • Leading afternoon and evening activities for campers

      • Communicate via Discord

      • Prepare and Lead Evening MC Meetings

      • Meet with Camp Director staff daily

      • Taking the Lead in dealing with challenging camp situations

      • Communicate with families of campers if needed

    • After Camp

      • Attend post camp meeting on Sunday after camp

        • Notes/Reflections throughout the week

      • Connect with Camp Directors and complete any incident reports as necessary

Operations Team

(Ops)

The Operations Team (Ops) provides support for all other groups at MusiCamp, anticipates shortcomings and provides solutions, works collaboratively with other Ops and staff members, and maintains a calm status quo when energy levels fluctuate.

Among other duties, the primary role of the Ops Team is to fill in wherever needed to "make camp happen."

    • An Ops member is someone who is very familiar and comfortable with Bemidji MusiCamp and its mission, and understands how the organization functions. As an Ops member, Bemidji MusiCamp prefers you to be or possess the following qualifications:

      Attributes:

      • Possess a strong & independent work ethic.

      • Be unafraid to make decisions and accept the consequences of a wrong decision.

      • Work collaboratively with others to ensure a smooth running camp.

      • Ability to keep cool in high-tension & high-stress environments.

      • Ability to anticipate problems and solve them before they become an issue.

      • Ability and desire to jump into tasks to complete them without being prompted.

      • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and digital).

      • Selflessness: Understand that it’s not about what you get out of the job as an LT, but what you give to others. You create the culture and climate that allows the camp to run at an optimal level.

      Experience:

      • Have experience in teaching / mentoring / working with college-aged and young professionals

      • Bachelors Degree in Music Education

      • Experienced Licensed Music Educator with experience running a program, taking groups on tour, and dealing with situations where communication with parents and other stakeholders is necessary

      • Experience in conflict management resolution/mediation


      Additional Valued Skillsets or Experience:

      • Photography/Video and editing capabilities

      • Registered lifeguard

      • CPR Certification

      • Previous experience working with MusiCamp (MC/LT/Etc.)


      As a member of the Operations Team, your job description is only a small part of what your role is at camp. Everyone working at MusiCamp is expected to fill in where needed to create the most positive and meaningful experience for campers.

  • As a member of the Operations Team (Ops), your expectations would include:

    • Before Camp: 

      • Prepare 

        • If you are needing copies (music, materials) for your assigned duties, email to info@bemidjimusicamp.org no later than 2 weeks before the start of camp

      • Be in regular communication with Camp directors

    • Arrival at Camp 

      • Arrive no later than Friday morning before camp

      • Collaborate with the Camp Directors 

      • Assist camp directors and fellow Operations team members in preparing camp

        • Copying music, stuffing folders, name tags, etc.

      • Lead auditions as needed

    • During the Week

      • Be on Call 24/7

      • Prepare for, lead, coach sectionals, lessons, classes, masterclasses, and ensembles as assigned

      • Assist with daily and evening camp activities as needed, including preparing anything needed for the next day

      • Communicate via Discord (Ensemble directors w/sectional leaders)

      • Eat meals at dining service with other Ops members–this is sometimes the best time to connect with other team members

      • Dorm floor supervision during MC meeting time (usually 10pm-11pm)

    • After Camp

      • Attend post camp meeting on Sunday morning after camp

        • Written Notes/Reflections throughout the week



    An Ops member does best when they can anticipate what will be bumpy and will either mitigate it or work collaboratively with other groups to ensure things are stable. The Operations Team sets the tone for the Camp in all ways–leadership, work ethic, and attitude.
